Það var ekki nóg að rumska, Jóhanna! Það þarf að halda sér vakandi!
Í framhaldi af grein Jóhönnu Sigurðardóttur "Icelanders are angry but will make sacrifices" í Financial Times, ritar Toby Hamblin:
Sir, Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir, the prime minister of Iceland, hopes that the people of large countries such as UK and the Netherlands are aware of the lasting impact their governments can have on small countries (Icelanders are angry but will make sacrifices, August 14).
It is a little late for Iceland to be pleading. Ms Sigurdardóttir and her predecessors were apparently happy to have the people of these large countries supporting the Icelandic financial sector during the good years. She has only her colleagues to blame for allowing the same finance sector to operate with insufficient liquidity to service its debt and eventually collapse.
I am sure there is an Icelandic version of the saying, You cannot have your cake and eat it.
